Challenges
What comes with every landscape in Augusta, Georgia? Comparisons to the perfection of Augusta National Golf Course. That proximity raises the bar exponentially for expectations on this property. Not only do locals make these comparisons, but new movers to the city have seen the awe-inspiring turf and azaleas broadcast during the Masters every spring. And landscape is so important, that our client has employed a neutral third-party horticulturist, who judges our performance each month, adding more pressure for our service crews.
Then there’s the soil quality issue. Much of South Georgia’s soil has excess clay, while some areas are sandy, which impacts drainage and plant health. This community also has aging landscape elements, with many species being over 12 years old. Incredible levels of care are a must to keep them vibrant, especially when the soil isn’t always ideal.

Another challenge is the area’s rapid population growth. As people flock to this once quiet area of Georgia, they seek out popular multi-family developments such as this one. Yellowstone Landscape employees are at a higher risk with the increased traffic. They must also be extra vigilant with maintenance safety, as many children play outdoors daily. Finally, not being allowed to use gas power equipment for pruning is another huge challenge. Hand-pruning is mandated by the client, forcing crews to divert from normal procedures, which does produce the desired results, but reduces landscape maintenance efficiency.
