Spanning nine floors and 225,000 square feet, this e-commerce giant’s global headquarters highlights an unmistakable brand identity. Over 2,300 employees enjoy an office life like no other, with a vibrant environment that invites exploration, reflection, and connection. The amenities are both subtle and breathtaking, meeting modern office staff needs with a rooftop garden, communal meal space, quiet work nooks, and more. The care that went into the interior design and interiorscaping makes work days pleasant while offering visually peaceful moments for pedestrians passing by this former industrial-use building.
Challenges
Challenges that might not be immediately obvious start with the space itself. Creating defined areas within an open floor plan is not a simple task. Not wanting to risk sacrificing flow, light, or flexibility when creating definition in these spaces, there was also the dilemma of how to make a massive industrial facility warm and inviting.
Next, there were budget constraints. The interior covered a large area and would require thousands of plants and unique species. The irrigation system and watering methods would also need to be cost-effective. These budget concerns also impacted plant maintenance. Our staff would have to find strategies to overcome the inherent inefficiencies of servicing nine different floors, each with distinct microclimates.
Finally, there were technical complexities. Since the maintenance contract covered multiple years, the initial design had to be thoughtful enough to avoid problems that could compound over time. As for the lighting, many plant placement decisions had to be made based on varying light levels across each floor, section by section. Caution was also needed to keep the skybridge plantings from becoming intrusive to the client’s employees.
Results
This one-of-a-kind interiorscape project could not have been such a success without the following strategies used by Greenery NYC, a Yellowstone Landscape company.
- Our horticulturalists created green dividers, living corridors, and layered vining systems to define spaces naturally.
- Seven living walls breathed life into the once-cold industrial building.
- The team used the facility’s original load-bearing strength (built for heavy printing presses) to support water-heavy green walls.
- Custom millwork, freestanding units, and two skybridges made this one of the largest interiorscapes in the U.S.
- Passive irrigation and water-wicking systems were developed to ensure low-maintenance and budget-friendliness.
- Long-term water use and operational costs were reduced using rain harvesting systems.
- Over 25,000 plants were strategically selected and grouped according to the right plant, right place philosophy.
- Microclimate plant selections included desert plants in sunny corridors, tropical species in humid glass-lined bridges, and vines complementing the lighting.
- Rain-fed cisterns were installed, helping the client achieve visual and environmental goals.
- In-house employees managed all plant design, horticultural installation, lighting/irrigation integration, and maintenance

Branded Well-Being
Attention to detail is what brand identity is all about. But how many brands go the extra mile to ensure no detail is left out? Their signature color was used in custom planters to cement brand story while creating brand visibility from the outside. Not to mention requiring the wood for planters and green dividers to be sourced within 100 miles of New York City to meet the company’s sustainability goals.

That’s what makes this property an unmistakable monument to the brand. It’s our hope that many other companies will see this example and start taking advantage of interiorscape design services to enhance their brand identity. Interior landscaping also provides a more natural work environment, which has been proven to reduce staff stress, anxiety, and burnout rates.
Yellowstone Landscape’s partner Greenery NYC has provided interiorscape services on this property for over nine years. The business relationship between provider and property owner has flourished like the desert plants in the building’s sun-drenched corridors and tropical species along the steamy bridges. Right plant, right place, and right client, right provider. An ideal fit lays the groundwork for world-class interiorscapes, which create office spaces that blossom and enable employees to flourish through biophilic design.
