The following guest post was written by Mac, about his internship experience with us this summer.

I am a Horticulture student at Houston Community College, and before accepting this internship, a full-time employee of Yellowstone Landscape. When I first heard about the Yellowstone Landscape internship program and their relationship with Houston Community College I was surprised at my options.

As a current employee of this company I thought, should I do my required internship with them or should I intern somewhere else for a different experience? Then I asked myself what are the advantages of being an Intern at Yellowstone Landscape since I already know a lot about the company? Will it make a difference if I intern with my current employer, what will I learn? After thinking about it I made the decision to do it!

As I started the internship rotation, I began to experience things which I never thought I could, and my mindset changed. I worked and performed to the best of my ability with the crew members, and they told me I have the potential to go places. Apparently, I do. I was pulled from the field to learn how the business management side of the company works. I was involved in several bids and proposals, I learned how our tree care division operates and had the opportunity to oversee a landscape installation.

The YL team does such an amazing job with learning opportunities.  I could not have learned this side of the business if it was not for managers Andy Reeves, and Bob Jaynes as well as my Mentor, Evan Martinez.  I now have a clearer idea of where I would like to direct my career with Yellowstone Landscape, and I am grateful for the opportunities they have provided.
