High praise and award-winning accolades come with this six-acre oasis in the New Mexico desert. The one-of-a-kind property rests within the fastest-growing city in the state, with over 112,000 residents currently. Word is spreading about the desirable area as it recently landed on America's 50 Best Cities to Live list. The property is situated beneath the hallowed Sandia Mountains and features uncommon, vibrant turf in the arid valley. Families, students, and city employees have countless amenities to enjoy, including shaded picnic tables, five event lawns, and elevated amphitheater seating.
Challenges
Harsh weather was our biggest challenge here, with bouts of heavy rain, mud, and snow. The project stretched from winter into summer, so our teams faced nearly every seasonal element, including New Mexico’s intense summer heat. The site challenges were due to the undeveloped space, which needed complete grading before any progress could be made with landscaping installation.
High expectations and visibility were also serious challenges. The property is located directly adjacent to the city hall, in full view of the client’s office window. This meant heightened levels of oversight, to say the least. As a result, clear communication was essential at every step of the project, especially with delays or pivots.
Finally, there was the enormous undertaking of installing a large variety of decorative rock. Installing boulders (weighing hundreds of pounds) across a property can be a slow process, and transporting tons of gravel, stones, and boulders was also a logistical challenge.
